Potato paprikas

This is a traditional Hungarian dish. It’s simple, flavorful, and budget-friendly. The key ingredients include potatoes, paprika, garlic, and ground caraway seeds. After a long working day, this is a perfect choice when you need a simple dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small white onion
  • 150g diced chorizo
  • garlic
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground caraway seeds
  • 500g potato
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 300ml water (approx.)
  • 2 small plum tomatoes

Method:

Wash and dice the vegetables (onion, garlic, tomatoes and potatoes). Heat a little oil in a pot. Add the onion, and garlic, sauté for 2 minutes. Later, add the chorizo, tomatoes, and caraway seeds, and continue sautéing for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the diced potatoes and water. Cook for half an hour, allowing the sauce to reduce. Serve hot with a slice of bread. Enjoy!

Q&A

Potato paprikas, also known as Paprikás krumpli, is a traditional Hungarian dish. It’s a popular peasant recipe that’s cheap, quick, and delicious.

Yes, and it’s easier, than you think. Just don’t add chorizo to it. After sautéing the onion, add 1 tsp of paprika, and a bit more salt to the dish.

You can serve with all kind of bread, or with some pasta as well. But I like to eat with salad.
